  • For frequent travellers: Triple Access feature of HSBC ATM Card allows you to withdraw cash from up to 3 accounts, including Foreign Currency Accounts
  • Withdrawals from ATMs abroad would be in the country’s local currency
  • If withdrawal is in the same currency as Foreign Currency Account account, no conversion required and same amount debited to account
  • Individuals, as well as businesses, can protect themselves from currency fluctuations by holding Foreign Currency Accounts.

 

  • The minimum balance requirements for the opening of Foreign Currency Accounts are as follows:

    GBP USD HKD CAD EUR
    SAV 2000
    Fixed Deposit 5000
  • The interest rates applicable to the different currencies are subject to daily fluctuations
  • Interests will accrue to the day prior to maturity of the deposits, is payable on the due date and may be either withdrawn or added to the principal
  • Withdrawals can be made in cash (depending on availability), or by means of Bank Draft, Travellers Cheques or Telegraphic Transfer to an overseas account
  • Foreign Currency Deposits (cash or cheques) are subject to Bank charges/Commission In Lieu of Exchange (CILE) at Bank’s discretion
  • Withdrawals on Foreign Currency Account Accounts (Savings only) can be made with an HSBC ATM Card and Visa/Plus ATM network in Mauritius and abroad

Eligibility

  • Individuals aged 18 years and above
  • Accounts for minors must be operated by the parent or an authorised person
  • Accounts can be opened for: individual(s) (sole or joint), society, partnership or for a company
  • For joint accounts, a joint mandate must be completed and signed by all parties
  • No introducer required
  • Minimum initial deposit required as indicated under "Features"
  • Foreign nationals should produce a Letter of Reference from their main banks overseas

  • Proof of identity - Identity card or passport
  • Account Opening terms and conditions
  • A Letter of Reference from the main overseas banks (for foreign nationals)
  • Birth certificates (for minors)
  • For large cash deposits, evidence of source of funds must be produced
